Spring Steps 2023.

On April 1st, at Mori-no-Machi Grace · Green Avenue in Okayama city, the Okayama Breaking Culture Association ran SPRING STEPS — a two-division 2-on-2 battle staged in the first week of the new fiscal year. Sixty-eight dancers came in from across Chu-Shikoku and Kansai: 16 Breaking crews (27 dancers) plus 21 Freestyle crews (41 dancers). Both divisions used a pickup-format prelim, a solo-cypher tie-breaker and a repechage round to narrow the field to eight, with the afternoon's back half given over to the main bracket.

The Breaking 2v2 final went to La-plus — HOPE (Kagawa), last July's Ujo Breakin' winner, paired with mokutan (Osaka) — who edged local Okayama duo takuya_noiz and SATETSU (sun gose down) 2–1. The Freestyle 2v2 crown went to Kiyo (Okayama, POP), who entered solo and took out PARTY FUNK (CADY-Y, HIROTO — STAYSTRONG) in the final. The judges' table was Eba / Wu-chan / Rudiez on the Breaking side and HAYATO / OLIVER / RIO on the Freestyle side; Semimaru and Long Neck manned the DJ booth, and Ku-chang handled the MC.

Closing the distance between the scene and the street — staging battles in station passages and plazas — is why this association keeps putting Breaking events in open spaces, and SPRING STEPS is how that calendar opens each year.
